2007 Board of Directors

Executive Committee

Dr. Shauna Casement, President, is a clinical psychologist in private practice who specializes in psychotherapy and skills training with persons who have been diagnosed with major mental illness in conjunction with cognitive and developmental disabilities. She developed an after-school and weekend program, The Kid Connection, which provides social skills training for children with developmental disabilities. She has previously served as vice-chair on the North Metro Community Services Human Rights Committee. She is involved is several professional organizations, including the American Association on Mental Retardation, the American Psychological Association, the National Association of Dual Diagnosis and the National Organization of Women. Dr. Casement lives in Denver.

George Good-deCurnou, Vice President currently serves as COmPASS Grant Administrator and IHSS Implementation Coordinator at the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Finance, Systems Change Section. Previous professional experience in business, nursing and non-profits enhance a personal commitment to effective advocacy. He devotes most of his attention to the improvement of Colorado's delivery of long-term care services and actively works in brain injury personal advocacy. George lives in Golden.

Julie Farrar, Secretary, has been a long time advocate and volunteer in the disability arena with the Arc and other advocacy organizations. She is the mother of three daughters. She is currently working on her Masters for Non Profit Administrative Management at Metropolitan College. Ms. Farrar lives in Denver.

Jim Tatten, Treasurer, is an attorney and currently the Director of State Advocacy for Catholic Health Initiatives. Catholic Health Initiatives is one of the country's largest Catholic healthcare systems. CHI operates healthcare facilities, in nineteen states. He has been actively involved in advocacy and lobbying at the state level for more than 18 years, on a number of state and federal public-policy issues in a wide range of areas, including health care, education, and social services. Mr. Tatten has been on the board for nine years, and has served as Treasurer for seven years. Mr. Tatten lives in Denver.

Kent Olsen, Immediate Past President, is an attorney in private practice who specializes in estate planning, estate administration, estate litigation, guardianships, conservatorship, advanced medical directives and elder law. He was a referee of the Denver Probate Court for 6 years. He is past president of the Colorado Fund for People with Disabilities, Inc. Mr. Olsen lives in Denver.

Board Members At Large


Mitch McKinney is a graduate of Metropolitan College who uses a wheelchair and technology to communicate with others. He is a volunteer advocate and active in the independent living movement. Mr. McKinney lives in Denver.

Clarence Miller, Member At Large grew up in the Wheat Ridge and Pueblo Regional institutions. He is and was an early pioneer in community living. He is an active volunteer and part time assistant lobbyist for the Colorado Health Associations. Mr. Miller lives in Denver.

Famer Reini, Member At Large is a father of an adult daughter with developmental disabilities. He has been a long time board member and has been the representative to the Board of Directors of the Metro Arc Thrift stores. Mr. Reini lives in Denver.

Board of Directors


Donna Batkis has studied social work, early intervention, theology and the arts. She is committed to justice and enlightened governance. She joined the board in 2007; we are honored to have her experience and enthusiasm.

Don Morales is the father of an adult son with developmental disabilities. He is a retired businessman. Mr. Morales lives in Denver.

Cynthia Reiff is the director of Marketing with Video Professor, Inc. She is a member of the Rocky Mountain Direct Marketing Association. She decided to become involved with the Arc of Denver as a result of attending a house party hosted by a board member in 2004. Ms. Reiff lives in Denver.

Marcia Tewell is executive director of the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council. She started out as a teenage volunteer with the Arc, became a special education teacher, then an advocate for children with disabilities. She is a past director of the Arc of Denver. Ms. Tewell lives in Denver.

Kevin Wagner graduated from Community College of Denver in May 2004 with a Certificate in Multimedia. Currently Kevin is working at Dardano's School of Gymnastics as a Junior Coach on a part-time basis. Kevin volunteers in the marketing department at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. For the past nine months he has been an intern of stage production at the Aurora Fox Theatre. He has produced a video titled, Inclusion is Good for Everyone. His goal was to get feedback regarding attitudes about what it was like to be friends and go to school with someone with a disability. For the past four years, Kevin has been showing his video and speaking before audiences throughout Colorado to educate others about the positive benefits of inclusion. Mr.Wagner lives in Denver.

Claire Williamson is an attorney who has spent many years representing individuals with disabilities. She is a member of the Colorado, Denver, and D.C. bar associations. She is currently working on her Master's in Library and Information Science. She was appointed to the Colorado Library Card Statewide Borrower’s Committee. Mrs. Williamson lives in Denver.
